Restaurant Week to launch in South Tyneside

Restaurants across South Tyneside are preparing for the borough’s first official food festival.

The inaugural South Tyneside Restaurant Week, being launched by South Tyneside Council, will run from 3rd-10th October 2015.

Dozens of restaurants across South Shields, Jarrow, Hebburn and Boldon are already signed up to take part, with each agreeing to run a special discounted two course set menu in addition to their usual offerings.

The Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor Richard Porthouse, was joined by restaurateurs from South Shield’s iconic Ocean Road – renowned for its Indian eateries and award-winning fish and chips – to officially launch South Tyneside Restaurant Week 2015.

He said: “The restaurant scene around South Tyneside is one of the best in the North East, boasting everything from independent bistros and high street chains to cosy village pubs and riverside retreats.

“Our new Restaurant Week is designed to help showcase the wide range of options available across the borough and to encourage visitors from around the region to try something new or rediscover an old favourite.

“We also want as many restaurants as possible to sign up and take part.”
