Work starts on £15 million Liverpool apartment project

Work is underway to transform a derelict site in Liverpool’s Baltic neighbourhood into 156 apartments for rent.

The £15million project on Norfolk Street is being constructed by developer Elliot Group’s in-house contractors and is set for completion in September 2016. There will be 6,000 sq ft of offices on the ground floor, together with a laundry, gym and lounge space for residents.

Developer Elliott Lawless said: “Our market wants an element of communality so features such as gyms and shared social space are very popular.

“Baltic is an exciting neighbourhood with craft bakeries, brew-pubs, galleries, bars and cafes all emerging to support a growing workforce and residential population. If offers tremendous convenience whilst still having its own distinct identity within the city centre”.

The scheme, designed by architects Falconer Chester Hall, is the latest of a number to have started on site in the rapidly regenerating former dockland area, which is book-ended by Grosvenor’s Liverpool One development to the north and the proposed Brewery Village to the south.

The district is home to several landmark building, including the Scandinavian Seamen’s Church, built to cater for the high number of mariners from the Baltic ports whose ships discharged cargoes in the south docks. The area also contains the renowned Baltic Fleet pub.
