Barratt Homes recognises Newcastle trainee as Apprentice of the Year
Connor Somerville, a bricklayer apprentice from Barratt Homes’ The Rise development in Scotswood, has been recognised as the North East divisions’ Apprentice of the Year and will be put forward for Barratt Homes’ National Apprentice of the Year Award, which is due to be announced in the autumn.
Connor, 18, from Scotswood, is currently in the second year of his apprenticeship and was recognised for his outstanding work, determination and eagerness to learn, whilst also being nominated for a prestigious Construction Industry Training Board award.
Connor commented: “I’m very happy to have been recognised as Barratt Homes North East Apprentice of the Year! An apprenticeship is a great way to begin working life and I’m amazed at how much I have learnt since starting at The Rise in Newcastle in 2013. When I left school I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do but the apprenticeship has provided me with direction and I absolutely love what I do.” Scott Lester, Construction Director for Barratt Developments North East, commented: “We are delighted with the progress Connor has made during his apprenticeship and the quality of his work is excellent. The construction industry is facing a potential shortfall in manpower and it’s vital we recognise and support apprenticeships in whatever discipline they are learning.”
