County Durham software company wins EDF Energy contract

Quorum Development Ltd, which provides software to customers in the power generation industry, has secured a contract with EDF Energy.

The Sedgefield company’s Sentinel product enables communication with National Grid and supports the efficient operation of power stations in the UK market.

Quorum won the contract following an open tender process, having competed with businesses on a national scale.

Operating from Durham County Council-owned NETPark in Sedgefield, Quorum works in the UK and across Europe enabling clients in Belgium, Denmark and Germany to monitor and trade electricity and gas.

The company has plans to expand in future, aided by Durham County Council’s economic development company, Business Durham. Quorum now has a team of 11 people, having added two new staff following the EDF contract win.

Quorum’s commercial director, John Sherban said: “We have now rolled out our systems to all 12 EDF power stations and the company’s trading centre. The software has been well-received by all parties and our expertise has been praised during the implementation by EDF.

“Business Durham has given Quorum the commercial space and support we need to expand, and we are looking forward to doing so over the next 12 months.”

Simon Goon, Business Durham’s managing director, said: “We’re very pleased to see this relatively new NETPark tenant achieving such fantastic things - hopefully this is a sign of more good progress to come for this company and Business Durham will support them wherever possible.”
