Jobs boost for Enfield as Siemens opens multi-million pound operation

Siemens has opened a new multi-million pound operation in Millmarsh Lane in Enfield, bringing jobs and investment to the borough.

The new Enfield Traffic Depot currently accommodates over 100 people in a variety of office and field roles, and will be working with Enfield Council to recruit additional staff locally.

With training facilities for both Siemens and TfL staff and testing facilities for both traffic signals and ANPR equipment, the new facility also includes a full warehouse operation for local stocking of traffic equipment and spares enabling a swift response to all TfL requirements across London.

Awarded by TfL in 2014, the Traffic Control Maintenance Services contracts require Siemens to install and maintain traffic signals in the North and North-east London regions including upgrading traffic signals to the latest, energy-saving technology, as well as expanding the use of intelligent traffic signals and new crossings for pedestrians and cyclists.

This week Cllr Alan Sitkin, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Business Development and Neil Isaac, Enfield Council’s Assistant Director for Economic Development joined with Mick Murphy, Director of Field Services for Siemens and Mike Jackson, Regional Manager for London for Siemens, to see the new site for themselves.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration & Business Development, Cllr Alan Sitkin, said “Siemens coming to Enfield is great news for not only the company but for the entire borough. New companies bring jobs, revenue and opportunities for residents which in turn boosts the local economy.

“During our meeting it was agreed that Siemens will be working with the council to encourage young people to pursue qualifications and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. We are also delighted to see that Siemens place the same importance on sustainability that we do, and will again seek to work together in the future to support that agenda.

“Enfield Council is always taking positive steps to ensure companies do come to the borough, and we welcome businesses of all sizes to relocate here. We are ideally positioned for transport links and can offer a skilled workforce”.

Gordon Wakeford, Head of Siemens’ Mobility Division in the UK, said: “Major investment in a new facility and new employees demonstrates our long-term commitment to a valued customer, and will enable the team of dedicated technicians and customer support engineers to meet all operational requirements across London, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
