Discover your wild side with TV presenter

On Sunday 27 September, Northumberland Wildlife Trust is thrilled to be hosting ‘Our Wildlife 2015’ at Kirkley Hall in Ponteland with TV and wildlife presenter, Iolo Williams.

Welshman Iolo Williams is best known for presenting on BBC series such as Springwatch, Countryfile and Iolo’s Special Reserves as well as writing for BBC Wildlife magazine.

Iolo is passionate about wildlife and will be giving the keynote speech at the event, talking about his exploration of the British landscape and his experiences with the wildlife that lives here, so go along and meet him and ask him all your wildlife questions in a question and answer session.

Alongside the star attraction, the wildlife charity will be encouraging people to get ‘hands-on’ with Northumberland’s wildlife. With expert help, staff will be getting up close and personal with small mammals including shrews, voles and mice, garden birds, bugs, moths and butterflies, pond life and wild flowers, as well as introducing a number of the four-legged animals used for conservation grazing including Exmoor ponies, sheep and its very own four-legged employee, Jess the sheepdog.

Experts will give tips on where to watch wildlife, how to draw your own wildlife creations, and how to improve your wildlife photography skills as well as build and take home bird boxes and get tips on how to encourage wildlife in your garden.

It’s not all about the adults - there’s plenty to keep youngsters occupied too with face painting, campfire cooking, learning to be a wildlife tracker, making a mink raft, spotting some sea creatures and much more besides.

Half price entry to Kirkley Hall Zoo the zip wire and a free lunch are all included in the price of one ticket!

With just one month to go until the day, Mike Pratt, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Chief Executive said: “It is such a coup for us that Iolo, with his fantastic knowledge of, and inspirational passion, for wildlife is joining us for the Our Wildlife event in September.

“The event will be a great chance for us to showcase all our conservation work across the region that wouldn’t have been possible without the support of members of the public, and will offer people the opportunity to experience wildlife at first hand, something which they may not have done before. We are all very excited.”
