Liverpool's Deputy Mayor unveils 200-home development

The official release of 200 new homes in the Walton area of Liverpool, being built as part of a £26m redevelopment project, was celebrated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week by the city’s Deputy Mayor Cllr Ann O’Byrne.

With construction carried out by Warrington firm Countryside, the Queen Mary Place development is being built on behalf of Regeneration Liverpool, a partnership between housing and regeneration organisation Sigma Capital Group and Liverpool City Council.

Cllr Ann O’Byrne commented: “This is a fantastic development which forms part of our commitment to deliver 5,000 new homes in Liverpool, driving up the quality and range of properties available to residents.

“It is another example of the council using brownfield sites which have been previously developed for housing.”

More than 130 of the 200 homes being constructed will be available for purchase through the government’s Help to Buy scheme, with 64 available for rent through a new private rental offering (PRS) between Gatehouse Bank, Barclays and Sigma Capital.

The MD of Countryside’s Partnerships North division, Ian Kelley, commented: “We’ve already experienced an overwhelming amount of interest in the development since opening the doors to our interior decorated show village, with 14 homes already sold off-plan.

“This success replicates the popularity of our nearby NGV Liverpool development, which has been instrumental in the transformation of Norris Green and further improving the quality and variety of homes across the city.”

The 64 PRS units at Queen Mary Place and 150 at NGV Liverpool are part of an initial £100m fund, according to Sigma Capital’s chief operating officer, Graeme Hogg.

He said: “We only commenced on site in February and are delighted with progress to date. Demand for the product has been very strong and lettings are going extremely well.

“We look forward to continuing to work with our colleagues at Liverpool City Council on new sites as we feel the combination of PRS and private sale can evidentially bring about transformational change to an area.”

Graeme added: “Queen Mary Place and NGV Liverpool are great examples of this happening now.”
