Redcar Beacon becomes radio broadcasting hub

A new North East radio station is set to launched after turning the Redcar Beacon into a broadcasting base for the first time.

Zetland FM was awarded a licence by OFCOM in the 2013 and starts broadcasting on 105 FM from 12pm on Monday August 31, having taken 30% of the Beacon’s office space for studios and meeting rooms.

The community station, founded by Jeremy Gartland, is looking to fill a gap in the market for a local radio station that has the interests of the Redcar and Cleveland community at its heart.

Councillor Dale Quigley, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, said: “Zetland FM setting up studios in the Redcar Beacon is excellent news. Redcar and Cleveland has been crying out for a community radio station and we are pleased that the council could help place them at the centre of the borough.

“We are also very excited about the new skills and opportunities on offer at the radio station, and hopefully we can see Zetland FM playing host to a future generation of broadcasting stars.”

Jeremy Gartland, Chairman of Zetland FM, added: “We are delighted to be basing our studios at the Redcar Beacon, which puts us right at the heart of the community we’re serving. Being born in Redcar and growing up in Skelton, I’ve always believed that this area deserves to have its very own radio station – and now we have!”
