Carnaby Street retailer to stock ‘world’s first’ contactless payment jacket
Lyle & Scott has partnered with Barclaycard to create a jacket that can be used to make contactless payments.
The retailer, which was founded in Scotland in 1874, has developed a jacket with a contactless payment chip in the sleeve. The product retails at £150 and will be available for purchase online and in its Carnaby Street store,
On Tuesday, the contactless transaction limit was raised from £20 to £30 in the UK.
Lyle & Scott’s innovation project manager, Jonathan Briggs, said: “We are a brand that embraces our heritage, however we understand that it is extremely important to stay in touch with the needs of our modern customers.
“Innovation is key to realising this, and so we are proud to partner with bPay to launch the world’s first contactless payment jacket.”
Barclaycard also offers bPay contactless wristbands and key fobs into which contactless chips can be inserted.
Last month, Apple Pay launched in the UK, enabling iPhone 6 and Apple Watch users to pay for products using contactless.
