Cobalt Park employees pledge to ride
To support Cycle to Work Day this Thursday 3rd September, Cobalt Park and their occupiers are promoting the pledge ride and providing a host of activities to encourage people to take to two wheels for the day.
Cycle to Work Day is a national event, which aims to encourage everyone to cycle to work for just one day. Herculean efforts in both 2013, and 2014 saw tens of thousands of commuters hit the streets and cycle over a half of a million miles for Cycle to Work Day. The event hopes to break all records in 2015 with Cobalt adding to the national efforts.
Numerous companies on site are cooking up free biker’s breakfasts on the day, which are a great way to reward their current cyclists and encourage others to give it a go. Bikers breakfasts will be offered by Utilitywise, Capita and Siemens to name a few.
A number of initiatives will be on offer to the 14,000 staff on site at the monthly Cobalt Cycle hub on Wednesday 2nd September to get them ready to go. If staff have a bike that needs a little love before they ride, they can pop their bike in at lunch for a free Dr Bike Health Check.
Those who have not cycled for a while and don’t have a bike, can loan a bike and take part in a cycle refresher session. Loaning one of Cobalt’s pool bikes for a month and building up some confidence and awareness to safely cycle with a lunchtime Cycle Training Refresher from Go Smarter.
To assist commuters who are not sure of their cycle route to work, the Cobalt team can plan routes, provide local area cycle maps and even find a bike buddy who will meet at an agreed start point and guide budding cyclist in on their first attempt.
Finally Northumbrian Police will be @ Cobalt Central 2nd September carrying out security marking and registration onto BikeRegister’s online database.
Lynn Cramman, Business Development Manager at Cobalt Park said “Cycle to Work day is a great opportunity to encourage the workforce at Cobalt to travel sustainably.”
“Cycling to work is great for health, saves you money on travel and is a great way to de-stress at the end of a long day! We are suggesting if you don’t normally cycle, why not hit the streets on September 3rd feeling safe in the knowledge that you’ll be one of thousands experimenting with 2 wheels and riding to work that day!”
