Free healthy heart checks for Ilkley walkers!

Heart Research UK has announced it will offer free healthy heart checks for those taking part in Approach PR’s ‘net-walking’ fundraiser on 16 September.

Organised by the Ilkley-based PR agency, the ‘Get Ilkley Walking’ event aims to raise money for the national, Leeds-based charity whilst giving other local businesses a chance to get active and increase their heart rates during lunch hour. As well as a guided walk, there will be an opportunity to network with fellow Ilkley businesses and Approach PR is encouraging everyone to bring along their business cards.

With heart disease cited as the UK’s biggest killer, the free healthy heart checks will be available to everyone taking part in the walk.

Managing director of Approach PR, Suzanne Watson, said: “With a strong belief in the benefits of networking, this is the first time we’ve organised a ‘net-walking’ event. We are absolutely delighted that Heart Research UK is offering this test – it’s a great addition to what we hope will be an enjoyable and worthwhile use of a lunchbreak.

“Statistics from the charity show, British full-time workers spend around 1,800 hours a year at work, with long periods of time sat down at desks, which can’t be good for us!”

Suzanne added: “What better reason to get away from the office than to meet other local professionals while taking in the Ilkley views and receiving a quick check up at the same time.”

There will also be refreshments available to give a boost to the working afternoon, including fresh remedy juices, super seed bars and gluten-free wraps from healthy restaurant, Filmore and Union. Participants will be encouraged to share their involvement on social media. There will also be opportunities to take a #HealthySelfie with HRUK’s mascot, Hartley.

‘Get Ilkley Walking’ begins at 12pm on September 16 at The Bandstand on The Grove. A minimum £3 donation is required with all proceeds going to Heart Research UK.
