Robson and Liddle give Tomos’s career a head start

A firm of chartered surveyors in Penrith has taken on its second ‘apprentice’ in as many months.

Robson and Liddle Chartered Surveyors, based at Edenhall, has recruited Tomos Davies as a student surveyor.

Tomos, 21, will assist Robson and Liddle in its work with farmers and landowners across Cumbria, The North East and Scottish Borders.

Tomos, originally from Denbighshire in North Wales, will spend a year with the firm before returning to Harper Adams University in Shropshire to complete a BSc degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management.

Last month Robson and Liddle, which works with farmers, estate owners and professionals, also recruited James Pyrah, 23, as a trainee surveyor. The firm, founded by John Robson and Julie Liddle, has created 10 jobs since it was set up in April.

He said: “Harper Adams has links with farms and businesses across the country that make placements available for students and I jumped at the chance to come up to Cumbria to work with Robson and Liddle. Working under John and Julie has already taught me so much. I’ve been assisting with their work managing client’s estates and learning about the sustainable management of estates.”

John Robson, a director of Robson and Liddle, added: “Paid placements are an integral part of training to be a chartered surveyor and we are pleased to have secured Tomos’s services during his placement year.”

Tomos has moved to the area to undertake his placement year and has been staying as a lodger with a local farming family on the Edenhall estate before moving to more permanent accommodation.

Once he completes his degree, Tomos will have need to prepare for his final professional exams to qualify as a surveyor.
