starcom reaches for clouds as Wigan 10k sponsor
Willow Starcom, a long-time supporter of Joining Jack, and a well established Wigan IT business, has thrown its weight behind the Wigan 10k run as an official corporate sponsor, and cloud services provider.
The well-known local firm has been named as a corporate sponsor of the run and will be donating money for every employee who takes part in the event and for every friend and family member of an employee who joins the challenge. The business is aiming to support up to 100 individual runners as part of its continuing pledge to support Joining Jack as its nominated charity.
It won’t be the name Willow Starcom on the starting point this year though, after the acquisition of Willow Starcom by K3 Hosting in April this year, bringing the company in to the K3 Business Technology Group and rebranding it as “starcom”. The two businesses have been brought together in the Wigan Investment Centre close to where the 10k run will take place.
Neil Farnworth, Managing Director at starcom, said that the company is keen to continue to support good local causes and events like this, and explained that their strategy for running the 10k run was built upon their own experiences of providing cloud to small businesses and enterprises.
He commented: “In many ways, transitioning a business to the cloud is very similar to preparing someone to run a 10k run – it’s all in the preparation. If anyone attempts to run a marathon without any prior training, they will be prone to injury and may not even make it past the finish line. With the cloud, the results of poor preparation can be worse. Projects can become delayed, businesses can become disrupted and whole projects can fail.
“We have been preparing for this race for a while now and are really looking forward to taking part and helping to raise funds for this great, worthy local cause as starcom.“
The Wigan 10k run takes place on September 6, setting off from Wigan town centre at 10.00am. Already 2,000 runners are expected to take place in the event, with live performances pre and post-race from Britain’s Got Talent star Henry Gallagher.
