All-new seasonal launch opens autumn art exhibition
Newcastle-based art gallery, The Biscuit Factory, hosted its all-new launch event at the weekend to mark the opening of its 10-week autumn show, welcoming over 600 guests through its doors.
The Biscuit Factory, the UK’s largest art, craft and design gallery, is exhibiting more than 200 artists in its new exhibition, including the work of almost 50 North East-based artists. Its launch event was an opportunity for guests to catch a first-look at the new collection, buy artwork on display and meet some of the artists exhibiting in the show.
The revamped event included, for the very first time, artist demonstrations and talks to create a more engaging, inspiring and informative experience for guests on the night.
Scottish oil painter, Gordon Wilson, who headlines the autumn show, formally introduced his new collection at the launch and discussed the inspiration for his work.
In addition, local ceramicist Alex Sickling and wire sculptor Zoe Robinson hosted demonstrations, and staff from National Glass Centre were also on hand to talk about glass making in our region.
Other highlights included live percussion music and a canapé reception provided by artisan restaurant.
Rachel Brown, general manager of The Biscuit Factory, comments: “It was wonderful to receive such a positive response to the evening from visitors and artists alike. We’ve already started planning the winter launch, where we’ll be introducing a little of the season into our itinerary.”
The commercial gallery’s autumn exhibition showcases a diverse collection of contemporary artwork, including paintings, prints, glass, sculpture, textiles and jewellery, and runs until 12 November 2015.
The gallery is open seven days a week and admission is free.
