Cash for Bristol Guide Dogs

Bristol Guide Dogs has been gifted £1,000 from a leading developer.

The cash injection from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley is made from the company’s Community Champions scheme, which is a pot of £24,000 to help fund and support local clubs, groups and good causes over the next 12 months.

The charity was chosen because of its work to promote independence and mobility to blind and partially sighted people throughout the region. It breeds and trains guide dogs that help people get out and about on their own terms.

Sarah Knox, community fundraiser for Bristol Guide Dogs, said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes for this generous donation. It’s a huge, unexpected boost for us.

“As we receive no government funding, we would not be able to continue without the support from organisations such as Persimmon and the generosity of the general public. The £1,000 will help us support a guide dog partnership for the next six months.”

Nicola Reed, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said the Community Champions scheme was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company builds new homes.

She said: “We are delighted to support Bristol Guide Dogs as we know that funding can be difficult to source, so it’s fantastic that we can offer financial assistance.

“We were very impressed with their application and the work that they do to assist blind and partially sighted people across the region.”

The Persimmon Community Champions scheme is a national programme where clubs, groups and good causes can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.

Nicola said: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re now urging people to apply for next month’s allocation by completing a form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”
