Local travel agent reports Euro booking boost

Amble based travel agent, Lizzie Adamson-Brown has reported a boost in travellers heading to Eurozone destinations this year, claiming there has never been a better time to book a holiday to Europe from the UK.

Lizzie runs her own home-based travel business as part of leading independent travel company Travel Counsellors. She says that the company has seen a 15% increase in bookings over the summer period (June-Aug), with European destinations proving most popular due to the weak Euro.

“Summer has been a really busy time for travellers, and I believe that a lot of this is due to UK customers’ money going a lot further when travelling round Europe,” says Lizzie. “The Euro is at a historically low point, with travel here less expensive now than it has been for a number of years. One Euro in summer 2014 exchanged at around 80 pence sterling. This summer this has come down to around 70 pence per Euro, which is over 12% less and means that the pound goes much further. As a result holidays to Europe remain popular with the three of the top destinations booked for departure during the summer period being Spain, Italy and Greece.”

Lizzie has also reported an increase in late summer sales, with bookings made during June to August due to travel before the end of September up by 22%, and is encouraging more people to take advantage of the extra value they could get from their holiday. This includes the parts of a holiday that usually up the overall cost like restaurants, tours and souvenirs becoming substantially cheaper, plus train tickets, internal flights and even some flights from the UK being less expensive too.

She adds; “As well as being able to make their money go further, my customers also really appreciate the added value I provide as their own personal travel advisor. It’s so important that I get to know my customers, so I can tailor-make their holiday down to the finest detail, wherever in the world they want to go. Plus as I run my business from home, I am available whenever they need me. Many of my customers have said they can’t put a price on that, but they are certainly happy that their money is going further when booking their European getaway too!”
