Orders up at Ocado as steady growth continues
Ocado has reported a significant increase in weekly orders despite ‘tough’ market conditions and ongoing supermarket wars.
The online grocery retailer, which primarily covers the South East region, saw its average orders per week increase to 190,000 in the 12 weeks to 9 August 2015, compared to 163,000 for the same period in the previous year.
Gross group sales also increased to £272m from £231.9m for the same period, while gross retail sales rose to £252m from £218m.
Tim Steiner, Ocado’s chief executive officer, said: “We are pleased with the continued steady growth of our business in a retail environment that remains tough.”
Ocado is reporting continued growth despite difficult market conditions; the retailer is competing with suffering supermarket chains Morrisons, Asda and Tesco, which all reported flat financials earlier this year.
Tim added: “We believe our commitment to improving what we offer to customers through innovation and our proprietary IP will support further growth. Notwithstanding the competitive nature of the marketplace, we expect to continue growing slightly ahead of the online grocery market.”
