£5m purpose-built veterinary hospital launches in Durham
Wear Referrals has launched in Durham today, a veterinary hospital dedicated to providing ‘out-of-hours’ emergency care for cats and dogs.
The £5m purpose-built hospital, the only facility of its kind in the North of England, is located at Bradbury, near Sedgefield, County Durham.
James Ramsbotham, Chief Executive at the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) and Clinical Director, Dr Gerard te Lintelo led the celebrations of the facility’s opening.
James Ramsbotham said: “I am delighted to be supporting this fantastic business – the leading veterinary centre in the north of England that has already created over 60 jobs for our region.
“Wear Referrals is a sustainability success story – both from an economic and environmental point of view. The building has already been nominated for a number of environmental awards thanks to its innovative use of solar, biomass technology and a living roof. I would like to congratulate Gerard and the entire team for their hard work and dedication, and wish them all the success for the future.”
With the percentage of people that own a dog in the North East of England higher than in any other region, the business finds itself well placed.
The hospital, which has already treated over 600 pets, is home to state-of-the-art technology. Guests on the day will be encouraged to tour the operating theatres, the chemotherapy and the rehabilitation wards, the dedicated intensive care unit, and see the latest diagnostic and surgical equipment,CT scanning, including an MRI scanner machine that can also be utilised for humans.
Dr Gerard te Lintelo said: “Whilst the building and facilities certainly are impressive and contains the latest equipment it is the team of people inside that truly make it outstanding.
“Our highly-skilled professionals offer multi-discipline clinical services including orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, neurology, neuro surgery, cardiology, internal medicine, opthalmology and rehabilitation to deliver the very best treatment to animals.
“We are well on the way to becoming a Centre of Excellence, both clinically and educationally, and offer a wide range of events and opportunities for practitioners in the industry to develop professional skills and knowledge, and further develop their experience and disciplines using the best technology available.”
