£1m York power plant and recycling centre assets up for auction

More than £1m is expected to be generated at an auction that is selling power generation and recycling equipment from a power plant and waste recycling centre near York.

Eddisons will be auctioning the operational assets and ancillary plant of the gas engine-based power plant and waste recycling centre at Alne, near York, by instruction of debt recovery agency the High Court Enforcement Group.

Owned by the Walled Garden Partnership, the power plant and recycling centre, set up by the former owners of the landfill site at Alne, was designed to take advantage of energy produced by methane created by waste at the site.

By capturing and recycling methane produced by the landfill site, the plant was set to generate enough electricity to power 2,000 homes for 20 years, via a connection to Husthwaite Sub Station.

Eddisons is auctioning the assets on behalf of the High Court Enforcement Group following a High Court judgement on debt owed by the Walled Garden Partnership.

Jason Pinder, director and head of machinery and business assets at Eddisons, said: “Lots such as this don’t come to market very often - it’s a rare chance to acquire such high end, late model generation plant. As this was an ongoing project there is some brand new equipment that has not even been commissioned.

“We’re told that the trommel - the cylinder screen that sorts waste into different grades and sizes - is the longest in the country and has been certified for use in power stations.”

The assets up for auction feature a Clarke Energy power generation module with Jenbacher J686 gas engine and associated ancillaries; an unused 2015 Jenbacher JGS320 gas engine generator; a Schmid biomass boiler estimated to have cost in the region of £650,000; a 30m heavy-duty four-barrel trommel screen; an office building and various yellow plant.

All 30 lots are being sold by online auction and are open to view on Tuesday 29 September 2015 between 9.30am and 4.00pm at Forest Lane, Alne, York YO61 1TU.
