Expanding London fintech startup Smarkets creates 75 jobs

Smarkets has announced plans to significantly increase its engineering and operations teams in order to accelerate the company’s growth programs.

The expansion plans will see the online betting exchange adding 50 Python and Erlang engineers, as well as additional 25 marketing and operations staff, to support the company’s future ambitions in the UK and abroad. To facilitate the expansion, the company also plans to build a new headquarters in central London.

Smarkets has revised financial forecasts multiple times this year, to reflect the unprecedented growth the company is currently experiencing. The company saw £1bn in lifetime trading volume in March 2015 and Smarkets is now on its way to doubling that figure in less than a year.

Smarkets is one of the only European companies to implement a “self-management” culture that removes all hierarchical corporate management structure.

Founder and CEO, Jason Trost, said: “It’s something that we believe stands out in the contributor’s work,

“Setting your salary is something that is practical and can be reflective of your skill level as corroborated by your peers. If you do good work, everyone makes sure you’re recognized and allowing you to set your salary only reinforces this measure.”
