Building funds for Macmillan Cancer Support

Bakers and coffee lovers at a South Shields housing development pulled together to help raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support as they took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Residents at Persimmon’s Biddick Green development on Woolf Drive baked, iced and lovingly decorated a mountain of cakes for everyone to enjoy on 26th September.

The team of bakers, led by Ann-Marie Miller, Dawn Mackie and Stella Laidler, sold tea, coffee and home-made cakes raising £295 for the annual charity event.

Debbie Zaben, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes North East, said: “I’m extremely proud of everyone’s dedication and hard work in raising money for Macmillan. The event brought the entire community together to enjoy the fabulous treats and everyone dug deep to donate.

“There are more than two million people living with cancer in the UK so every penny is vital to help Macmillan continue to provide practical, medical and emotional help to those affected by the disease.”

World-wide the event raised over £25 million in 2014 with thousands of people signing up to organise a coffee morning.

Coffee morning organiser Ann-Marie Miller, added: “It feels very special to be part of such a fantastic fundraising event and raising £295 is the icing on the cake.”
