Regional tax expert relocates to Shropshire premises

A regional tax expert is celebrating recovering £4m in Research & Development tax relief for Midlands’ businesses with a move to new Shropshire premises.

R&D Tax Claims has moved into new purpose built offices in Mercury House on Shrewsbury Business Park from its previous base at Pendeford Business Park in Wolverhampton.

Managing Director Mark Evans said: “I’ve lived in Shrewsbury for a number of years now, and the central location of the business park is an ideal base for us, as well as complementing our North West premises in Warrington.

“It’s a lovely place to work, and offers great transport links alongside all the modern facilities you would expect from a business park.”

R&D Tax Claims has a proven track record in helping SMEs investing in research and development to claim back extra tax relief on every pound spent in developing new products or introducing new and improved processes.

Mark Evans said: “One of the major obstacles I face day to day is that companies believe the scheme is too good to be true.

“But claiming back R&D tax from HMRC is a government backed initiative that was introduced to actively encourage SMEs to claim back money – money that can be reinvested to support and grow those businesses.”

The company is an active patron of Made in the Midlands, the public voice of Midlands-based manufacturing SMEs, and Mark has a 100 per cent success rate on tax relief claims, helping 28 MIM members recoup an average of £142,000 each.

It was announced last week that Mark’s company is to sponsor an award at the inaugural Business with Birmingham Conference. R&D Tax Claims will sponsor the High Growth Innovative SME of the Year award at the event hosted by the University of Birmingham.

This first Business with Birmingham Conference will offer an insight into how industry and universities can work together to boost innovation and productivity to stimulate business growth. Up to 200 delegates and experts from business and academia will come together to hear about exciting collaborations, ground-breaking projects and the leading research being carried out at the University of Birmingham.

The award is one of four to be presented at the conference, and is specifically designed to highlight the most exciting new companies in the UK. It is open to privately-owned SMEs that can demonstrate significant growth through R&D over the past three years.

Small and medium enterprises are invited to apply for £5,000 in order to fund a small-scale collaborative project with the University of Birmingham. The winning applicant will receive business support and enterprise monitoring from the University’s Business Engagement team. Applications must be received by 5pm on Wednesday, October 21st and for details of how to enter contact Luke Jones at l.jones@bham.ac.uk

As sponsor, Mark has been invited to take part in judging the winning entry in the category.

“I’m really looking forward to the judging process,” said Mark. “Each entrant has to explain how it has demonstrated significant growth in R&D and how it would utilise the prize money. I’m excited about hearing their fresh and innovative ideas and perhaps a brand new way of looking at things.”

Business with Birmingham will be held on Friday, November 20 in the Great Hall at the University of Birmingham. The award winners will be announced at 4pm.
