Basingstoke charity secure cash boost
A Basingstoke charity that helps those at risk of heart disease has received a cash injection from a leading housebuilder.
Basingstoke & Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation has been awarded £1,000 as a part of Persimmon Homes Thames Valley’s Community Champions scheme, a project that sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities.
The charity will use this financial boost to get more people involved in their Stay Well campaign, a 10-week course that focuses on those that have any of the risk factors associated with heart disease.
Martin Lovell, general manager at Basingstoke & Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation, said: “It is fantastic to receive this donation thanks to Persimmon Homes Thames Valley’s Community Champions initiative, allowing us to support the charity’s Stay Well programme.
“The programme contains a 10-week course of assessment, risk factor monitoring and an exercise regime specifically tailored to the individual. At the end of the programme they are reassessed and are invited to continue to exercise at the centre.
“We have set ourselves a target to increase the number of individuals joining the scheme by 150 over the next year. This funding will allow us to help more people who benefit most from what we do at our specialist centre.”
Martyn Clark, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, said: “We are delighted to be donating £1,000 to the Basingstoke & Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation charity, with their Stay Well programme providing vital support to those that may be at risk of heart disease.
“Persimmon Homes Thames Valley has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a tricky task to pick our winners each month.
“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
The housebuilder has 28 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses available at its Sherborne Fields site in Basingstoke, with the latest phase being released just this week. The development has homes that are ideal for first time buyers, growing families and investors.
Community Champions is a year-long programme with £750,000 to be spread across the housebuilder’s 25 regions. Groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise funds themselves can apply for match funding of up to £1,000.
