Keeping in control of your wedding budget

Weddings can be expensive occasions. However, if you ensure you keep to your budget, you should have nothing to worry about and be able to fully enjoy your special day.

Firstly, you’ve got to decide on your budget. This will involve deciding what kind of wedding you want to have and where. Also, you should try to calculate how many guests you will have as this will affect the cost of food (and drink!) greatly. It can be helpful to construct a list of priorities you want at the wedding so those that fall lower down on the list can be more easily given up – with filming of course at the top!! To save money it’s also a great idea to make whatever you can yourself such as decorations. This also gives your wedding more of a personal feeling.

To put aside money for the wedding, you can set up an easy access account or even an ISA which allows you to save £15,000 a year without being taxed and easily withdraw from it. Other good tips to save money are to use the same flowers used in the service as in your reception, asking staff to move them across when the service has finished. Combine the pudding with the wedding cake so you cut down on a course that people don’t often eat anyway. If possible, hold the wedding on an off-peak day or time of the year as this is sure to save you a hell of a lot of money which can either be saved or spent elsewhere on the wedding. Also, drink expenditure can quickly get out of hand if you have a large wedding. Tips to avoid this include having waiters serve wine at the table, rather than having it on the table for everyone to help themselves. Also, if you have a free bar only put wine and beer behind it rather than allowing your guests to have more expensive spirits and cocktails.

Keeping these tricks in mind, you should be able to stay in control of your wedding budget whilst ensuring you experience a day you will never forget.
