Steffen’s raising a giggle for grasslands
Local stand-up comedian Steffen Peddie will be raising laughs and, in turn, raising funds for rare grasslands with Northumberland Wildlife Trust later this month. Perhaps best known for playing lovable Big Keith in the 2012 BBC sitcom ‘Hebburn’, along with Vic Reeves, Gina McKee and Chris Ramsey, Steffen built his career performing as a comedian in the North of England. A much lesser known fact is that, not only do Steffen’s family own The Mailing House in Cramlington, but he is a keen supporter of Northumberland Wildlife Trust and its conservation work; so, when he approached the Trust with an offer to host a comedy night in aid of a current Trust project … it was an offer not to be turned down. So, Steffen and his fellow comedians are all set to split sides at the ‘Giggles for Grasslands’ evening at The Stand Comedy Club on Monday 19 October. All money raised will be spent on conserving the Region’s rare grasslands which are rapidly in decline. Steve Lowe, Head of Conservation at Northumberland Wildlife Trust and a regular at The Stand Comedy Club said: “What a great alternative way to raise money for what is seen as a boring subject… grasslands, and, let’s face it, if anybody can make grasslands interesting Steffen can. “The money will be used to save some of the rarest plants in the country which are all too often overlooked, so come on, buy your ticket now - it will be a fiver well spent.” Tickets cost £5.00 and are available from Northumberland Wildlife Trust headquarters at St Nicholas Park in Gosforth, Newcastle, at Northumberlandia in Cramlington or from The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle. Doors open at 7:00pm for an 8:30pm start.
