Work to start on £8m Liverpool Dale Street project

A project to revamp historic commercial buildings on Liverpool’s Dale Street is about to get underway.

Liverpool-based property developer Goodman Wells is behind the refurb, which will see Princes Building transformed into 35 apartments and ground-level retail space.

Goodman Wells’ managing director, Paul Burgess, said: “This is a labour of love for us and we want to ensure that we deliver a development that respects the building’s specific character and has an overall identity and integrity.

“It’s therefore important that any retail and leisure element is complementary and helps define a building with its own personality and sense of place.”

With all 35 of the apartments already sold, Goodman Wells intends to submit a planning application for the second phase of the £8m scheme, in which the adjacent Cheapside Warehouse will be converted into six duplex apartments.

Paul continued: “There is a great deal of residential development being delivered in the city centre at the moment, but we’re looking to deliver something that’s distinctive and desirable.”

Liverpool firm Century 21 is the agent on the scheme. Its branch manager, Claire Birchall, commented: “This has been a really enjoyable and rewarding project to market. It’s a great product in a really outstanding and beautiful building.

“It’s a piece of Liverpool heritage that is being lovingly and expertly restored.”

Goodman Wells is seeking entrepreneurs to operate a coffee shop or restaurant in the building.

The Dale Street scheme is the latest in a series of projects by Goodman Wells to transform historic property across Merseyside, including works in Liverpool’s Sefton Park and Hamilton Square in Birkenhead.
