Spanish bakery chain proves popular with second UK café
A Spanish coffee, artisan and baked goods chains, is to open a new bakery at 23 Powis Street in Woolwich town centre.
The Woolwich Arsenal Estate has announced that the 1,280 sq ft Granier Bakery Café will open in November. The bakery will be the brand’s second in the UK and marks the beginning of an expansion programme in London.
Comprising more than 350,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space concentrated on Powis Street and Hare Street, the Woolwich Arsenal Estate is the town centre of Woolwich.
In addition to the retail, the Estate includes over 60 apartments totalling in excess of 42,000 sq ft. The forthcoming opening of Crossrail is helping to drive Woolwich’s transformation, with the Woolwich Arsenal Estate sitting at the heart of many significant new residential developments.
Granier has over 270 bakeries in Spain and is famous for its artisan recipes, including 64 different varieties of bread and the high quality design of its bakeries. As well as the brand’s full range of breads and pastries, the new Woolwich Arsenal Estate bakery will include a 40-cover café.
Commenting on behalf of the Woolwich Arsenal Estate, Emma Clarke, Partner at Cradick Retail said: “Granier is a great new addition to Woolwich and typical of the growing number of exciting brands that are actively seeking space on the Estate.
“As the opening of Crossrail draws nearer, reducing journey times to the West End to just 19 minutes, Woolwich is increasingly sought after by retailers, restaurants, bars and cafés seeking to capitalise on the growth in the town’s population. As Woolwich gains momentum, the Woolwich Arsenal Estate stands out as the focal point of demand.”
David Parera, expansion director at Granier, added: “Of the many options available to us in London, the Woolwich Arsenal Estate was the most exciting. It is a well-managed destination that benefits from the adjacent high quality residential properties developed and underway, and is set to receive a further boost with the opening of Crossrail.
“Combined with the availability of a perfect unit, it was the obvious choice for the start of our expansion.”
Granier is the latest in a series of brands to sign in Woolwich. Antic London has already opened the Woolwich Equitable and is planning to open two further sites in the town over the coming months. In addition, Geronimo Inns and Hop Stuff Brewery are to open in Woolwich.
Cradick Retail and Nash Bond acted for the Woolwich Arsenal Estate. Outlet4Property represented Granier Bakery.
