Paul Scholes Triumphs at Housing Units’ Golf Day
Retired Manchester United footballer, Paul Scholes, has triumphed at the annual golf day hosted by the North-West’s premier home furnishing centre, Housing Units.
Scholes, who is a customer at the store, won the individual competition with 38 stableford points, beating off fierce competition from the 52 in attendance. In return for his win, Scholes, a 10 handicapper, was presented with Housing Units’ famous green jacket – not only a traditional jacket at Housing Units, but an uncanny take on the infamous green jacket of the Augusta National US Masters.
The Housing Units golf day takes place every year at the Saddleworth Golf Club and has raised £150,000 to-date for local and national charities. This year’s event raised £3,225, and the vital funds will be going to Salford-based children’s cancer charity, Kidscan – Housing Units’ chosen charity for 2015.
The Failsworth-based store selected Kidscan as its nominated charity after being impressed with the charity’s pioneering research into finding effective, gentle treatments for childhood cancer sufferers. The charity receives no statutory funding, and therefore relies on donations and support from businesses such as Housing Units. Since the beginning of their partnership in April, Housing Units has raised a total of £11,193 for the charity.
Lowri Haf Turner, Director of Development at Kidscan, said: “Housing Units is a massive support to us and we are extremely grateful to the team for another brilliant event. We never want to think about our children having to face cancer, but for some families this is very much a reality. With the help of our fundraisers, we are able to pursue pioneering research into effective, gentle treatments that will ensure childhood cancer patients go on to live long and healthy lives”
Nick Fox, Merchandise and Marketing Director at Housing Units, added: “We always look forward to our annual golf day, and we are delighted that the money from this year’s event is going to a charity that carries out such vital research. A great day was had by all, and we hope that Paul Scholes will be wearing his jacket with pride until next year’s event!”
