Prescot Shopping Centre set for transformation under new owners
Liverpool market operator Groupe Geraud has completed its acquisition of Prescot Shopping Centre, promising a bright future for the 90,000 sq ft Merseyside shopping facility.
The company’s UK managing director, Philip Lamb, confirmed that discussions are now underway with Knowsley Council over plans to reinvigorate the site.
Philip said: “[The project] will see a transformation of the town centre and celebrate the heritage of which Prescot should be justly proud.
“Since acquiring the centre we have been recruiting new businesses and over the next few weeks we will be launching a number of new retail offers.”
Groupe Geraud acquired Prescot Shopping Centre through its Market Village business, which operates a number of indoor markets across the UK, including St John’s Market in Liverpool.
Philip continued: “Groupe Geraud is a third-generation family business and our ethos is to work together in partnership. We are looking forward to working with Knowsley Council and all businesses in the town to put the heart back into Prescot.
Knowsley Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, Mike Murphy, welcomed the news.
He commented: “Groupe Geraud has organised the Prescot Producers market since May 2011, so the company is very familiar with the area and its potential.
“Their plans to invest and bring new tenants into the centre will bring a much needed boost to the shopping offer in Prescot and support the council’s vision to transform Prescot town centre into a thriving and even more attractive destination for resident and visitors.
Cllr Murphy added: “We look forward to welcoming Group Geraud to Prescot and working with them to further enhance Prescot town centre.”
