Heathrow reveals images of proposed third runway

Heathrow Airport has release new images of its plans to build a third runway on site, following the controversial recommendation given by the Airports Commission led by Sir Howard Davies in July.

At two miles (3,200m) long, the north west runway will allow the airport to host up to 740,000 flights each year. The proposal also includes a new central terminal and an expanded business park.

In the latest statement on the stock market, the airport saw its busiest day ever in August, with 257,312 passengers choosing the UK’s only hub, whilst August 2015 was a record for arrivals, with 3.75 million passengers landing at the airport.

A Cabinet-led commission is expected to deliver a decision on the proposal by the end of the year.

Heathrow’s plans will create 180,000 jobs and an economic boost of £211bn, according to the Daily Mail.
