Martin-Brooks golfers putt £2,000 in charity pot
Sheffield roofing specialists, Martin-Brooks, have teamed up with colleagues from across the construction industry to raise another £2,000 for local charities.
A record 19 teams of four took part in the firm’s sixth annual golf day, taking the charity cash generated by the firm to more than £20,000.
Held at Renishaw Park Golf Club, near Sheffield, the 18-hole Stableford competition was won by Stephen Scott of GS Roofing Supplies. He was also on the victorious four ball team that scored an unbeatable 90 points, pegging Burton Roofing into second place.
Prizes were also presented for the shot that landed nearest the pin and the longest drive on the 18th hole. A special award was given to the “most honest golfer” who will now be enjoying lessons courtesy of Martin-Brooks.
In addition to the £2,000 donated to the firm’s charity challenge, a raffle was held to win a complimentary round of golf at Renishaw Park, raising a further £326 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Dale Wright, Martin-Brooks’ contracts director and golf day organiser, said: “This year’s event was the best yet. We had our largest turnout, with 76 players teeing off throughout the day and even the weather was on our side! I’d like to congratulate the winners and thank the many friends, colleagues and professional partners who support us year on year for their continued enthusiasm and generosity.”
Martin-Brooks has pledged to raise £25,000 for Sheffield organisations, including Amy’s Retreat, Catcliffe MS Therapy Centre, Cavendish Cancer Care, Sheffield Talking News, St Vincent’s Furniture Scheme, The Rowan School, Norfolk Park Special School, Help for Heroes and Sheffield Institute Foundation’s motor neurone research centre.
