Tottenham market prepares for complete overall after three year delay
As part of borough-wide regeneration plans, a market in the heart of Tottenham has been given the green light to undergo a major revamp.
Holcombe Road Market, opposite Bruce Grove Station, will be transformed with new kiosks, pedestrian routes and modern paving, while better signage and car parking facilities will help attract more shoppers, and a new CCTV camera will enhance public safety in the area.
The plans were developed in close consultation with the Bruce Grove Stakeholder Group, which brings together local residents and businesses.
The proposals were initially submitted in 2012 and the revamp is set to take one year to completion.
Councillor Alan Strickland, Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration, said: “It’s long been our ambition to transform Holcombe Road Market into a bustling modern public space, and I’m really pleased to see work getting underway.
“The new market will provide better facilities that show off Tottenham’s great local traders and bring a safer, cleaner and welcoming place for residents and shoppers to visit.
“These improvements go hand-in-hand with our extensive programme of shop front revamps, our public art displays and the community-focused refurbishment of Tottenham Green to make sure Tottenham continues to be eye-catching.”
Work on Holcombe Road Market is due to start later this year, with traders temporarily moved onto the High Road while complex construction is completed.
