Lean Manufacturing Produces Unique Results

In a bid to minimise waste sent to landfill the Dewsbury based furniture manufacturer Shackletons is going patchwork crazy producing unique patchwork upholstered chairs with its fabric off-cuts.

The brainchild of the Shackletons financial director Paul Braithwaite, the company, who specialises in chair production, has been using their upholstery off-cuts, not just to adhere to its lean manufacturing operations, but also to donate to local charities and raffles.

Their latest patchwork chair was donated as a raffle prize for a Dementia UK fundraiser – the event raised two thousand pounds!

Jason Bloom, National Sales Manager of Shackletons said “We hate to waste and using the off-cuts in this way is one way to reduce our own landfill figures as well as demonstrating our social responsibility to the local area. However it seems we now have a consumer following as these unique creations are fast becoming sort-after items for people looking to make an interior statement.”

Shackletons have been in the business of creating comfort for over 50 years and are the UK’s leading design and manufacturer of specialist contract furniture for the healthcare sector.
