Intellectual property firm marks 40 years in Stockport

The Stockport arm of global intellectual property experts Dennemeyer is celebrating 40 years in the centre of town.

Started in 1962 in Luxembourg, Dennemeyer set up its first UK office in Stockport in 1973 on Birdhall Lane. Two years later, the firm began a 40-year tenancy in Regent House, Orbit Development’s flagship commercial property in the town centre.

Dennemeyer has over five decades of experience in delivering quality IP legal services in a wide spectrum of jurisdictions and IP management software solutions and has offices in 13 countries, working across sectors including manufacturing, technology, automotive, pharmaceutical, energy, chemical and consumer.

Currently, Dennemeyer handles over 2.2 million intellectual property (IP) rights, but it was the Stockport arm which led the way with the first computer-based patent annuity payments beginning in 1973.

The business has built an enviable reputation through its innovative solutions to patent and trademark management, which allows thousands of businesses to protect and maximise the economic potential of their brands.

As you would expect, there have been many changes over four decades for the Dennemeyer employees in Stockport, but Orbit Developments Regent House has remained a constant.

Stockport’s excellent transport links are important to Dennemeyer, and the fact that the town is a considerably less expensive area from which to do business than its city neighbour was another driver for the global organisation’s decision to move to the town.

While the Dennemeyer team has moved offices three times within Regent House its commitment to the building has not wavered. They now occupy an office on the first floor of the 11-storey building.

Gill Lennon from the Patent Annuities Department, said: “The quality of space, security and the friendly service from Orbit’s management team has not changed over all the time we have been here and they have been particularly helpful around our latest move.

“They found us another space in the building, which suited our new requirements. They also assisted with all the technical side of the move and provided a team from Emerson Management Services to shift our furniture to the new office.

“The location, just a short walk from the station, makes commuting to work easy and it’s good to be part of a wider community in the building.”

Tony Jones, Managing Director of Orbit Developments, said: “We congratulate Dennemeyer on their 40th anniversary at Regent House and are delighted they are still with us. Keeping customers for a long time is about being responsive to needs, maintaining quality of service and adding value. We wish them well for the next 40!”
