Q-Park Tops out at Embankment
Embankment, Manchester’s newest City Centre development scheme, has reached a key milestone in its build programme as its 442-space car park reaches the highest point of construction on schedule.
Award-winning parking provider Q-Park and construction partners Carillion are currently building the state-of-the-art, subterranean car park which, together with 101 Embankment, forms the central element of phase one of the development. The Q-Park facility will operate over 3 floors and will be accessed by lifts and stairs to a central paypoints which will be located immediately outside the entrance to the scheme’s two prestigious office buildings, 100 and 101 Embankment.
Ask Real Estate Limited and its joint venture partners, Carillion and Tristan Capital Partners are on schedule to deliver the first phase of the extensive regeneration project which will provide 165,000 sq.ft. of Grade A office space at 101 Embankment ready for occupation in July 2016.
Once complete, the scheme will offer a vibrant new business and retail destination right at the core of the city region. It is located just minutes from Victoria Station, in the shadow of Manchester Cathedral and at the heart of the City’s core shopping district.
John Hughes, Managing Director, Ask Real Estate said: “Construction of the Q-Park car park has made great progress at Embankment and we are delighted to have secured them as a key operator as we move towards completion next summer. The scheme’s bursting with potential, we’re seeing a definite appetite for the offering and are already fielding enquiries from a number of potential occupiers. We will be introducing the scheme to our neighbours and agents at a preview evening in October, an event we have decided to hold due to the high level of interest from occupiers across the country. “
Mark Pawson, Q-Park Senior Project Manager said: “After successfully opening at Ask’s First Street development earlier this year we are delighted to be working with them and their partners again at Embankment, another highly desirable location in Manchester. We choose strategically desirable locations and create parking environments which are safe, clean, well-lit and secure and Embankment will be a popular choice with both office workers and shoppers alike.”
Commenting on the build itself, he added: “The retained exterior and listed red brick arches from the historic Exchange Station have presented some challenges with internal demolition and the construction of the core steel frame, and we undertook this work with the utmost care, to avoid any damage to these historic structures.
“We will be restoring the iconic red brick arches to their original condition and are incorporating them into the structure of the car park, protecting Manchester’s history and transport heritage. We are pleased that the project has topped out and will be ready for the grand opening in 2016.”
