West Norwood Cinema complex gets green light

Plans for a four screen cinema and library complex in West Norwood have been approved by Lambeth Council’s planning committee.

The deal will see Picturehouse transforming the council-owned Nettlefold Hall in Norwood High Street into a four-screen cinema, complete with bar and café.

West Norwood Library, which has closed since a burglary in 2011, will also receive a £1.1m investment.

Following the signing of the Agreement to Lease arrangement, there will now be a period of around 12 weeks to complete costings and develop designs ready for a full public consultation, which will begin early next year.

Cllr Jane Edbrooke, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “It’s been a long time coming, but we really can see the prize at the end now.

“The cinema and library, following on from the new health and leisure centre will really help West Norwood realise its potential as a lively Lambeth town centre.”

The new complex is expected to be open by 2017.
