Brighton named UK’s best city for businesses
New research has named Brighton as the best city in which to start a business.
Following on from Brighton & Hove City Council’s decision to approve a £6m digital investment plan, a new report from the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) has named the city as the best place in the country for budding entrepreneurs.
Rankings in the AAT report were based on several factors, including digital connectivity, pollution levels and the price of property.
Mark Farrar, chief executive of the AAT, said that while the capital continues to maintain its reputation as an international business hub, the growing appeal of other UK cities could mean “the tables could now be turning”.
He said: “The opportunities available in the UK’s provincial cities make them an extremely attractive place to invest in and it’s encouraging to see the high number of new businesses opening and thriving across the country.”
Cambridge came second in the ranking after scoring points for its tech community, relatively high number of high growth companies and its low number of SMEs going out of business.
London came in ninth place, while Crawley and Leicester were the only two top 10 locations outside of the South.
Aberdeen, meanwhile, was the only non-English location to make the cut, coming in 14th place.
