Canine cop visits Scarborough nursery

Happy Jays nursery in Scarborough played host to police dog handler Marc Richardson, who came in to teach the children how dogs can assist the police.

Marc brought his police dog Dutch with him, and also his own dog Monty, who the children played with in the garden.

After talking to the children about dogs’ highly developed sense of smell, he demonstrated this skill by hiding his wallet and keys and then ordering Dutch to conduct a search, which he did – finding the objects immediately.

Abi Fenton, the nursery deputy manager, said ‘The day was a resounding success. The children learnt all about dogs’ sense of smell and were mesmerised by Dutch’s ability to find hidden objects.’

Tony Gernon, MD of Happy Jays, commented: “We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Marc Richardson for his visit. Events like this are a fantastic way of engaging with the children, as they learn whilst enjoying themselves in a safe environment.’

Happy Jays provides Ofsted registered nursery and childcare in Boroughbridge, Scarborough, Harrogate, York and Batley.
