Historic printing business HQ goes under the hammer at Leeds auction
90 lots of residential and commercial property and development land, located across Yorkshire and the North of England, will go under the hammer at Eddisons’ next property auctions in Manchester and Leeds next week, with a total guide price of £5.6m.
Among the lots included in the Leeds auction, which takes place at Elland Road Stadium on 22 October, is the Castle Press in Grimsby, the former home of the Wyndeham Gait printing company which closed its northern operation in April this year with the loss of 34 jobs.
Located on Victoria Street North, the historic warehouse and offices were originally the 1st Lincoln Artillery Barracks. The grade-II listed building, which has a guide price of £250k to £300k covers 30,000 sq ft, with the entire site spanning almost an acre.
Wyndeham Gait, which had been operating in Grimsby since 1860 and began to struggle in the digital age, produced train timetables, automotive brochures and education literature, as well as Grimsby Town FC’s matchday programme The Mariner.
Rob Limbert, director and auctioneer at Eddisons, said: “The former Wyndeham Gait site is a great development opportunity and with a guide price that is now significantly lower than the price it was initially put on the market at earlier this year. Needless to say it’s generating quite a lot of interest.”
Further investment opportunities include three former cinemas in Mexborough, Worksop and Wath upon Dearne, all of which are now occupied by snooker clubs. Guide prices on the three properties run from £140k to £175k-plus and each generates a rental income of £20k.
In Otley town centre a fully-let retail property on Manor Square, leased to an antique shop and tattoo parlour, is guided at £165k to £175k and generates a gross annual income of £20k.
A dismantled railway cutting and farm land at Warnfield-cum-Heath in Wakefield will also go under the hammer. The 13-acre development site has planning consent for two fishing and wildlife ponds and has a guide price of £300k plus.
Mr Limbert added: “As ever with our auctions, there is a very wide range of properties and sites up for grabs and we expect this one to attract large numbers of potential buyers, bidding both in person at the event and remotely.”
