Planning praise for Newbury Racecourse development

David Wilson Homes has received one of the UK’s highest industry honours for the way it dealt with planning at its Newbury Racecourse housing development.

The project has been praised by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), picking up the award for ‘Excellence in Planning to Deliver Housing’ at the industry body’s Planning Excellence Awards.

Working in association with planning consultancy Terence O’Rourke, David Wilson Homes secured permission to build 1,500 homes at Newbury Racecourse in 2010 and a further 708 houses this year.

Judges at the RTPI were impressed with the way David Wilson Homes and Terence O’Rourke worked closely with the local authority to address the challenges presented by the new development.

Simon Kirk, technical director at David Wilson Homes’ Southern Division, said: “It was incredibly important to us to work closely with both the council and the public to shape our latest plans. Their feedback and this collaborative approach have been vital in helping us deliver proposals for a fantastic development that will provide homes for so many local people.”

David Wilson Homes’ development at Newbury Racecourse features a range of contemporary homes, many of which boast stunning views across the concourse . Phase one of the development is well underway, with around half of the first 1,500 homes nearing completion.
