Leeds United Supporters’ Trust urge Massimo Cellino to review ownership

The Leeds United Supporters’ Trust (LUST) has now prompted Massimo Cellino to consider selling his ownership in the football club.

This request follows the Football League banning Cellino until June from having a role as an owner or director of the Leeds United for a second time in a year.

The Football League suspended the Italian businessman on Mondaydue to his conviction for not paying taxes in his home country this past June. Cellino was ordered to pay €40k (£28.5k) by an Italian court for non-payment of import duty on a Range Rover he’d imported to Sardinia from the United States.

The LUST has now urged Cellino and the minority shareholder Gulf Finance House to sell their stakes in Leeds United, and “act in the best interests of the club and its supporters and the Football League to bring clarity to this endless situation.”

A statement released by TRUST, read: “The trust believes Leeds supporters have suffered enough over the years and therefore asks that Massimo Cellino brings clarity and honesty to any public statements on the immediate future and considers the supporters’ need for a stable club at all times in how he deals with this latest ban.

“If, and the case grows daily, it is in the best interests of Leeds United supporters, he and GFH should sell, we call on them both to do so with efficiency.”

Cellino now has until October 28th to appeal against the board’s decision.

However, the TRUST are wanting action now, including “putting in place an experienced English football managing director who stays for the medium term and for our majority and minority owners to consider whether their continued presence at Elland Road is conducive to the good of the loyal support.”
