York nursery hosts mini menagerie to boost children’s learning
A mini menagerie - which included a pony, baby goat, 2 pigs, a barn owl, 3 rabbits, and a baby rat - has helped children at Happy Jays nursery at Clifton Moor to learn about animals’ habitats and diets.
The pre-schoolers were enchanted and delighted with the animals from The Purple Pig Company run, by famer Rachel Searstone, which educates children about animals in a vibrant and hands-on way.
Gemma Cobb, the nursery manager, said: “It was a fantastic day combining fun with learning. Many of the younger children didn’t know that the Purple Pig Company was coming to visit, so their faces lit up when they walked outside and saw the mini-farm in the garden.”
Tony Gernon, MD of the Happy Jays group of nurseries, commented: “Across all our nurseries we are proud to provide an excellent standard of care and learning whilst ensuring the children enjoy their time with us. Hands-on experiences like this enable our team to engage with the children about memorable topics which the children share with their families.”
Happy Jays provides Ofsted registered nursery and childcare in Batley, Harrogate, Boroughbridge, York and Scarborough.
