Duo join Lodders’ successful trainee programme
Mohammed Abbas and Jenny Cockett have taken the first steps towards realising a career in the law following their recruitment to the flagship trainee programme at Midlands firm Lodders.
The duo join a programme that has a strong track record for the firm, with 70% of its trainees staying with Lodders post qualification, many joining the firm’s partnership and remaining at Lodders throughout their careers.
Most recently, these include Louise Igoe who was promoted to equity partner in July, partner and business and commercial specialist Kim Klahn, associates Rebecca Freeman and Laura Abbott, solicitors Amrit Samra, Katherine Burge, and Hannah Taylor, and Krishna Gokani and Lauren Watson, who both qualified earlier this year.
Lodders’ 2015 trainees are based at the firm’s Stratford upon Avon office and have their first seat in Lodders’ top ranking agricultural and estates team, one of the largest dedicated to the sector in the Midlands.
Mohammed Abbas joined Lodders after graduating in 2012 and completing a LPC on a part-time basis alongside working as a paralegal at firms in London, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham, most recently at SGH Martineau and Shoosmiths in Birmingham.
“I have already worked with a wide variety of Lodders’ agricultural and real estate clients, assisting on farming partnerships, agricultural holding tenancies and farm business tenancies, the sale and purchase of rural land and the first registrations of unregistered land,” says Mohammed, “and am now working within the private client department alongside equity partner Louise Igoe, on a huge range of matters including LPAs, wills and tax planning.”
Jenny Cockett graduated in law in 2014 and completed her LPC at the University of Law in Bristol. She says: “When I was looking at firms, Lodders offered everything in terms of a broad range of specialist teams, location, and a very warm, professional and supportive environment.”
Mohammed adds: “Lodders offers a comprehensive trainee programme that combines practical and varied hands-on experience with client responsibility. The firm delivers proven career prospects to its trainees, with an eye on long term sustainability for the firm, as well as their future through ongoing professional development and support.”
Lodders’ senior partner Martin Green says the firm has long been committed to nurturing its lawyers of the future: “Supporting new entrants to the profession and their professional development, both ‘on the job’ and with their qualifications, is at the foundation of our strategy. Our trainee programme has launched the careers of very many of our fee earners and senior members of the team and partnership.
“Lodders has a reputation for exceptional legal prowess combined with effective, personal client service, and it is vital we support the next generation of talented lawyers and people at the firm to maintain these standards, Lodders’ future growth and its overall sustainability.”
