Local entrepreneur named UK’s ‘Top Gun’

CRAFTER’S Companion founder Sara Davies has been crowned this year’s ‘Young Gun’ and is the first female to win the accolade after competing with some of the nation’s most impressive entrepreneurs.

Shortlisted by startups.co.uk to the prestigious list of the UK’s 30 leading young entrepreneurs, the North-East businesswoman was crowned the winner of the coveted title by an expert-judging panel.

The awards were held at the prestigious Kensington Roof Gardens and pay tribute to the outstanding contribution of British entrepreneurs aged 35 and under.

Sara said: “I am truly honoured to have achieved the Young Gun title as I was up against some of the most respected business people in the country that all run incredible organisations.

“The other nominees are all extremely successful in their own right, so to have achieved this award and to be the first female Top Gun is something I am very proud of.

“I’m absolutely delighted and incredibly grateful to the judges for recognising the work we do as a North-East based company and within the craft industry.”

Hot on the heals of her success, 31-year-old Sara has since also been shortlisted for two national Mumpreneur awards, which recognise the nation’s leading female professionals.

She is nominated within the Mumpreneur ‘Wired’ category, which is aimed at companies who trade online and for the ‘Boost’ award for demonstrating high business growth.

Sara added: “As a working Mum, I believe these awards are wonderful as they recognise that juggling family life with running a business can be challenging, but incredibly rewarding.

“It’s important to champion and encourage woman in business and I’m looking forward to learning about other Mumpreneurs also shortlisted for awards.”

Crafter’s Companion was set up in 2005 and employs over 60 people across its headquarters in County Durham and its US operation in California.

The fast-growing company specialises in manufacturing and distributing crafting tools and products which are sold online via its website, on TV shopping channels across the world and by independent retailers.
