AACSB opening doors on international stage
Newcastle Business School is building partnerships with some of the world’s leading teaching institutions thanks its double AACSB accreditation.
As well as raising the School’s global profile, this collaboration is also promoting exchange opportunities for both students and academics. In a recent example Doctor Russell Warhurst, Reader in Human Resource Management (HRM) at Newcastle Business School, has just completed a series of teaching blocks at Aalto University School of Business - Finland’s leading business school.
Aalto has campuses in Helsinki and Mikkeli, and is internationally acclaimed for its research and education. It also teaches programmes in English, such as International Business, and is renowned for, training and producing global leaders and visionary professionals.
Doctor Warhurst’s main focus at Aalto during his recent visit was as module leader for an International HRM module. However, Russell also acts, throughout the academic year as a thesis supervisor for undergraduates researching international human resource management. His invitation to teach as an adjunct professor was part of a unique model of block delivery by academics from around the world, particularly the US. The English-taught courses also attract a mix of Finish and international exchange students from other AACSB-accredited institutions, predominantly from South East Asia.
Doctor Warhurst said: “Opportunities like this to teach at the very best institutions in the world, and to engage with some of the brightest international students are incredibly valuable. You experience alternative higher education systems and gain exposure to new sets of cultures with different geographical influences, and you can benefit from collaborating on ground-breaking research projects with the potential for real global impact. The great news is that with its AACSB accreditation, Newcastle Business School is now increasingly able to offer these opportunities to its students and faculty.”
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International was founded in 1916. Today it is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting. It is also considered by many to be the leading international accreditation for business education.
Newcastle Business School gained a double AASCB accreditation in business and accounting in 2014, placing it among the top 1% of business schools worldwide.
