Mechan explores export potential at Aussie expo

Rail depot equipment specialist, Mechan, is swapping Sheffield’s seven hills for the seaside city of Melbourne to enhance its export opportunities in Australia.

Mechan will be exhibiting for the first time at AusRAIL Plus next month, to learn more about Australia’s rail sector and raise awareness of its maintenance products.

Sales engineer, Adam Elliot, will be based on stand 449 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from November 24 to 26, to introduce Mechan’s wide range of lifting and handling equipment. The firm’s display will form part of the UK Pavilion, run by the Rail Industry Association and UK Trade and Investment.

Adam said: “I am really excited to be making my first trip to AusRAIL Plus and to have an opportunity to meet in person existing and new contacts in the region. Australasia has a progressive, dynamic rail sector that we believe offers untapped potential for our innovative, high quality products. Exhibiting in our own right at this world renowned industry gathering will give us a much better feel for visitors’ first impressions of Mechan.”

Australia and New Zealand are strong export markets for the firm, which has made deliveries across the continent. These include lifting jacks to KiwiRail’s Hamilton depot and the largest pair of bogie rotators ever produced by Mechan to Downer EDi Rail’s Newport depot in Victoria.

AusRAIL Plus is Australasia’s largest rail trade fair, attracting 400 exhibitors and 7,000 attendees in 2013. The biannual event was last held in Melbourne in 2008 and is attended by decision makers from across the industry.
