Harrison Spinks secures £1.5m acquisition of Leeds City College site
Bed and mattress manufacturer, Harrison Spinks, has expanded its Leeds-based facilities, with the £1.5m purchase of a former Leeds City College site.
The company, which is behind the Harrison, Somnus and Spink & Edgar brands, will use the newly acquired 60,000 sq ft site for its fabric weaving operation, as well as its upholstery business and development division.
The growth, which comes as Harrison Spinks continues to bring its materials and component production in-house, allows the company to expand its current workforce of 460 by a further 20%, and now gives the company more than 250,000 sq ft of manufacturing space.
Simon Spinks, managing director of Harrison Spinks, said: “We act wherever possible to secure our future at our Leeds site. We don’t want to move because of the people and skills base we’ve got here.”
“As a result, when a property becomes available, we feel we need to get it so the opportunity is there to continually expand.”
Established in 1840, Harrison Spinks is a fifth-generation family business, manufacturing high-luxury beds, cot mattresses, sofas and components.
All products use the company’s patented spring technology as well as natural fillings grown on its own 300-acre Yorkshire farm. The company has recently seen industry acclaim, and was awarded the Bed Manufacturer of the Year by leading industry body, National Bed Federation (NBF).
