Business Wales helps Deeside electrical wholesaler recruit new staff thanks to rates relief savings grant
Electrical and lighting wholesaler Quickbit Ltd has expanded and recruited more staff by reinvesting savings made to its rates bill thanks to help from Business Wales.
The company, based at Unit 65, Zone 1 Deeside Industrial Park, within the Deeside Enterprise Zone in Flintshire, benefitted from the Welsh Government’s rates relief scheme after advice from Business Wales, enabling it to invest in facilities to store more goods.
The resulting increase in turnover then enabled founders Stuart Guy and David Baker to recruit four extra employees, and the company continues to grow.
Stuart, a former electrical contractor who set up Quickbit with David in 2009, said: “Support from Business Wales has been incredibly useful.
“The rates relief we were encouraged to apply for enabled us to install new mezzanine floors and cable racking, which can hold considerably more stock.
“As a result, we’ve been able to hire more staff, helping the business grow further.”
The company provides components to householders and businesses for everything from LED lighting in new build properties to upgrading domestic lighting and installing power to a shed or garage.
It operates six days a week from its Deeside premises, via a busy trade counter and website.
“We have a lot of customers, some through our trade counter but we also deliver nationwide and export across the world.” added David.
“We’ll be looking to Business Wales for further support, as well as developing other ideas for growing the business further.”
Quickbit is now to install further mezzanine flooring to increase storage space. The firm is also considering relocating to larger premises within the Deeside Industrial Park within the next two years.
The free advice service provided by Business Wales offers bilingual information and guidance to all small to medium enterprises based in Wales.
Business Wales is funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.
