Catering company's Game of Foods

A North East catering and events company has been delving into the dark ages for a unique corporate event.

1879 Events Management, based in Sunderland, won the contract to provide catering for the first ever Medieval Banquet organised by Rotary SR1.

The Game of Thrones inspired evening, held at Sunderland Minster, was attended by more than 150 business leaders and community representatives from across the city and included live entertainment and a fundraising raffle.

As well as developing a bespoke menu, including Winterfell Potage ham hock broth, House of Stark shin of beef and Wild-lings mushroom and leek pie, 1879 Events Management also provided cutlery, crockery and glassware for the event, along with a fully-stocked cash bar.

Gemma Dishman, Chair of Rotary SR1, said: “This was the first event of its kind not just for us as an organisation but for Sunderland Minster as a venue too.

“With that in mind we needed a safe pair of hands and the team at 1879 Events Management more than delivered in terms of creativity, reliability and enthusiasm for the concept.”

1879 Events Management, a subsidiary of SAFC, was launched in 2012 to manage catering and events at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland. It has since been employed to do the same at the city’s National Glass Centre, as well as its wholly-owned Beach House bistro, Roker, and various other external events.

Michael Laidler, Key Account Executive at 1879 Events Management, said: “In the past few years we’ve catered for a wide range of events, including leading LGBT festival Newcastle Pride and even a wedding at a North East garden centre.

“We were able to utilise all of this experience for the Rotary Club’s medieval banquet and maximise our creativity by developing a menu that was not only true to the time but also in-keeping with the event’s Game of Thrones theme.”
