New defibrillator for the village of Tockenham

Tockenham has received a new heart defibrillator thanks to funding from Persimmon Homes, Social Services and the Parish Council.

The life-saving equipment will be located outside the village hall and can be accessed by members of the public during an emergency. The Parish Council also plans to educate villagers on what steps should be taken if somebody suffers a cardiac arrest.

Michelle Wallace, a local resident from Tockenham, said: “We are delighted that our community now has access to a defibrillator. I would like to thank Persimmon Homes, social services and the Parish Council for all their help and support in raising vital funds for this piece of life saving equipment.”

Persimmon Homes gifted Tockenham Villagers £800 towards the cost of the defibrillator through the builder’s Community Champions scheme.

Pauline Fletcher, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Wessex, said the scheme was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company builds new homes.

She said: “We are delighted to grant the wish of Tockenham Villagers and provide them with the funds to buy a defibrillator. They are such a vital piece of equipment, which can help to restart a heart when a patient suffers a cardiac arrest.”

The Persimmon Community Champions scheme is a national programme where clubs, groups and good causes can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.

Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000. Pauline continued: “It couldn’t be any easier to apply for funding and we are now calling for people to apply for next month’s allocation by completing a form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.
